The docks continue to be infiltrated by elements from the underworld who were earlier led by one Mohammed Ali, but are now being controlled by one Arifbhai. Ali and Arifbhai belong to the Dawood Ibrahim gang. In fact, this gang has managed to infiltrate even the naval intelligence wing and has some moles there.
The gang’s main business is smuggling of diesel. Large ships bring in diesel from Somalia and park themselves in the international waters. Hi-speed barges owned by the gang then bring in the precious fuel from these ships. The turnover of the smugglers runs into several crores of rupees each month.
